Single-strand windshield removal wire on a 650-foot spool weighing approximately 1 pound. Cuts sealant around gasketless bonded windshields for glass removal. A necessity for every auto body and glass shop. The single-strand wire cuts faster than braided wire and is ideal for softer sealant beads and newer vehicles where the adhesive has not fully cured or hardened.
Each spool contains approximately 650 feet of single-strand windshield removal wire and weighs about 1 pound. This provides enough wire for dozens of windshield removals. Cut 3 to 4 feet of wire per job.
Single-strand wire cuts faster through sealant but is more likely to break under high tension. Braided wire (3 strands twisted together) is stronger and better for thick or aged urethane. Use single-strand for newer vehicles with softer sealant and braided for older, hardened adhesive.
Wire segments are typically used once and discarded. The wire stretches, kinks, and loses cutting effectiveness after one windshield removal. The 650-foot spool provides a large supply so fresh wire is always available for each job.
Removal wire is used on gasketless bonded windshields where the glass is glued to the vehicle body with urethane or butyl adhesive. Rubber gasket-mounted windshields on older vehicles are removed by pushing out the gasket rather than cutting wire.
Yes. The wire can cut through other adhesives, sealants, and soft materials in tight spaces. Auto body shops also use it for cutting adhesive on quarter glass, back glass, and other bonded panels where a saw or knife cannot reach.
