White aluminum oxide is a synthetic abrasive made from fused alumina (white corundum). At Mohs hardness 9, it is the hardest blast media short of diamond. The white color indicates high purity with low iron content, making it suitable for applications where iron contamination must be avoided.

White aluminum oxide has higher purity and lower iron content than brown. Use white when iron contamination would cause problems, such as on stainless steel, titanium, aerospace parts, or medical devices. Brown aluminum oxide is less expensive and acceptable for general steel blasting where iron traces are not an issue.

White aluminum oxide cuts virtually any surface including hardened steel, stainless steel, titanium, ceramics, and glass. Its Mohs 9 hardness is exceeded only by diamond and silicon carbide. Use it for precision profiling, etching, and preparing surfaces that resist softer abrasives entirely.

White aluminum oxide is extremely durable and recyclable many times. The angular particles maintain their cutting edges through multiple blast cycles longer than any other mineral abrasive. Despite the higher upfront cost, the extended media life and recyclability make it cost-effective per square foot blasted.
