Semi steel wheels use a cast iron core with a softer steel tread. This provides the load capacity and heat resistance of cast iron while offering slightly better shock absorption and floor protection. Semi steel rolls quieter than pure cast iron on concrete and causes less floor surface damage.
The semi steel caster is rated from -45F to 800F, identical to the cast iron models. This makes it suitable for powder coating oven carts and high-temperature material handling. The precision ball bearings require high-temperature grease for sustained use above 400F.
Yes. A zerk fitting on the wheel allows periodic lubrication with a standard grease gun. For room-temperature use, grease every 3-6 months. For oven cart applications, use high-temperature grease rated above your cure temperature and grease more frequently due to heat-accelerated breakdown.
Both semi steel and cast iron casters in the 6" x 2" size have compatible wheel heights and can be mounted on the same cart. However, mixing wheel types can create uneven wear patterns. For best results, use matching caster types on all four corners of the same piece of equipment.
