The SPP73 fits .496" diameter holes, just .004" under a true 1/2" hole. This makes it the go-to pull plug for standard 1/2" drilled holes where slight undersize gives a tight compression fit. The .250" flange provides a quarter-inch thick seal around the hole.
Yes. At .496" the SPP73 compresses snugly into a .500" hole with just .004" of interference. This slight compression creates a reliable friction seal. For holes drilled oversize beyond .500", the fit may be loose. Verify with a trial plug first.
Clear distinguishes the .496" SPP73 from the .472" light blue SPP70 and other gray plugs in the same size range. With only .024" separating adjacent sizes, unique colors prevent dangerous mix-ups that would leave holes improperly sealed during coating.
The SPP73 flange at .250" is one of the thickest in the pull plug range, matched only by the SPP89 (.250") and exceeded only by the SPP437 (.300") and SPP110 (.372"). Thicker flanges create better surface seals on larger holes where powder can sneak under.
