At 160A the duty cycle is 20% (2 minutes welding per 10-minute period). At 110A the duty cycle reaches 100% for continuous welding. For most stick welding tasks the effective duty cycle falls between these points depending on the amperage and electrode size selected.

When an electrode freezes to the workpiece, the Maxstar 161 S detects the stuck condition and automatically turns off the welding output. This allows the operator to safely break the electrode free without overheating the machine or damaging the rod. No manual power switch intervention needed.

The welder includes separate 120V and 240V power cords that disconnect from the rear panel without tools. Each cord is 6.5 ft (2m) long. Simply plug in the cord matching your available outlet. No adapter or voltage selector switch is needed to change between 120V and 240V operation.
