A foot shear leaves both hands free to hold and guide the sheet metal during the cut. This improves cut accuracy on large panels that would otherwise shift during operation. The foot pedal provides consistent cutting force without operator fatigue on production cutting runs. Hand shears require one hand on the lever, limiting material control.

The shear cuts sheet metal up to 52 inches wide in a single pass. For sheets wider than 52 inches, reposition and make overlapping cuts. The 52-inch capacity covers standard 48-inch and 60-inch sheet stock with room for positioning. This range suits most HVAC duct, automotive panel, and general fabrication cutting applications.

The foot shear is rated for mild steel up to 14 gauge at full 52-inch width. Thinner gauges cut with less pedal effort. At maximum gauge, use steady, full-stroke pedal depression rather than partial strokes. Cutting thicker material than rated forces the blades apart, producing a poor cut edge and premature blade damage.

Blade clearance is set at the factory for rated-gauge material. If cut edge quality deteriorates, adjust the clearance following the manual procedure. Use a feeler gauge to verify clearance matches the specification for your material thickness. Incorrect clearance is the most common cause of rolled edges, excessive burr, and blade chipping on foot shears.

Yes. Aluminum cuts more easily than mild steel at equivalent gauge. The foot shear handles aluminum within the same width capacity. Aluminum shavings and edge burr are minimal with correct blade clearance. Clean aluminum particles from the blade channel regularly to prevent contamination of the blade edges and workpiece surface.
